Sven discovered his passion for capturing moments around the year of 2007. It was at a time when Luxembourg was undergoing significant societal and cultural transformation.

Bands that since their beginnings played their concerts in their basements and garages, or if you had any luck, bars of small french or south Luxembourgish towns, now got invited to play in the Capital. It was the year where many things seemed possible for a young thriving generation of experimenting musicians and freshly outland-impregnated home comers from European Art Schools, Universities, newcomers all eager to build Luxembourg's cultural scene from scratch, fill it with ideas and initiatives they have passionately observed, admired or actively taken part in, in the other European cities. Back in the 'Ländchen' their ecosystem consisted of bars with loud music and long nights, empty houses, public space, halfways reconverted industrial warehouses. What today is often described as the beginnings - or to be fair - the continuation of the birth hour of the artistic and cultural scene and their public, was for this generation a long-desired breeze of metropolitan air, an urban retreat for alternative thinkers - a place of community, of learning and belonging. It was a time for experimentation.

Part of a larger community of experimenters, and at the time of new digital possibilities Sven tried himself in graphic, web design, editorial design and photography. Electrified by the rising and thriving cultural offer and creative scene, he began photographing all sorts of concerts and cultural events. Good and new music was what inspired him. This was the beginning of an endless exercise of catching those raw and authentic moments of pure bliss of newness.

Culture brings people together and triggers ideas. Thus the idea and many activities like exhibitions and a series of magazines all organized by under the name of the collective IUEOA. The collaboration in "VOYAGE AU BOUT D'UNE IDENTITE" video work of Hamburg based artist Filip Markiewicz project for the exhibition Paradiso Lussemburgo, selected to represent Luxembourg at Venice Biennale, Italy in 2015. The year-long signature of (Carré)Rotondes documentation and a number of other communication campaigns or editorial projects.

Since 2013, he works as an independent photographer, for the local press and magazines such as Lëtzebuerger Land, Paperjam, Delano, City Mag and has been commissioned by Nido (Stern) or Les jours (France). 2013 marks as well the starting point of a series of independent documenting travels to countries and cities such as Istanbul, Turkey where he covered the Gezi Park occupation protests and recently the terrorist attack on New years eve 2016, Myanmar and Japan in 2015, or Teheran, Iran in 2016 where he covered cultural scene of Iranian artists community and Paris in 2019 the Gilets Jaunes movement.

Intrigued by the unfamiliar, and the of other cultures, his work distinguishes itself by its empathic human approach and giving us a glimpse of his subjects’ stories and societal change. His strong interest in socio-political themes and actions, social cohesion or the absence of it, as well as contemporary events, such as the recent arrival of refugees in Europe, has led him to join the Book project “I am not a refugee”.

He currently works as a photojournalist for Lëtzebuerger Land and continues his personal projects staying inherently close to what happens in contemporary society of which he is part.
